Hi Steven,

thanks for the update. With all of the info, I would go with a 5751. This might be what you are looking for. The ECC82 has a gain factor that is way too low (20 vs 100!). A 5751 or a 12AT7 might get you close to what you are looking for.

yes, i thought the ecc81 was a good compromise. I will try the 5751 from my Fender next time I am in the band practice room. And I will still put a switch on the bypass cap of v1a

Cathode bypass works wonders. I removed the effects loop (never used it anyway) and put a switch in one of the holes. Put the ecc83 back in ... perfect. And my cold solder joint is gone. Now I have to fill the other hole, maybe a master?

Yes you can replace the R17 (1M) by a 1M log pot, and you search a clean sound, a master isn't bad idea.
